This series is a guide to adding products to your WooCommerce store. By default, there are 4 main types of products that you can add to WooCommerce stores:
Today, we are starting off by discussing how to add External/Affiliate products to WooCommerce.
How to add a new product in WooCommerce?
Under the woocommerce section, you will find the product section. From there, you will get the product type section. Inside products, your store provides add new products using the add new button at the top left of the section.
Add a new section; you will find the product data type tab. There are multiple options that you can explore currently. We are using a grouped product data type. Here are all the featured options you will find inside this section:
Adding External/Affiliate Products in WooCommerce
As the name suggests, External/Affiliate products are just simple with no variations and no recurring payments. To add a grouped product, you will have to add the following:
- Title
- Description
- Images
- Product Data
Product Data
From the product data section, you have to add the following details to your External/Affiliate WooCommerce products.
Simple Products Pricing – General:
In the General tab, we have the following:
- Product URL:
A field where you enter the external URL of the product. This is the link to the external website where the product can be purchased.
- Button Text:
A field to customize the text of the button that will link to the external product. The default text is “Buy product”.
- Regular Price ($):
There is a field to enter the regular price of the product. This information is displayed to show the product’s price to the customer.
- Sale Price ($):
A field to enter the sale price of the product. This price can be scheduled to run for a specific period using the “Schedule” link next to it.
Inventory:
- SKU:
A field to enter the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) for the product. The SKU is a unique identifier for the product, useful for inventory management and tracking.
Linked products:
The “Linked Products” tab in WooCommerce provides features for managing related products, specifically upsells and cross-sells. Here’s what each feature does:
- Upsells:
This feature allows you to recommend higher-end products to your customers. When a customer views the current product, the upsell products are displayed on the product page as suggestions for more expensive or better alternatives. You can add upsell products by searching for them in the provided field.
Attributes:
- Custom Product Attribute:
You can choose to add a new custom product attribute by selecting it from the dropdown menu and clicking the “Add” button.
Name and Value(s) Fields: Name: This field allows you to enter the name of the custom product attribute.
Value(s): This field is for entering the values associated with the custom attribute. Values should be separated by the pipe (|) symbol if there are multiple values.
Color and Size:
- Color and Size: These are predefined product attributes. Each has its own:
- Name: The name of the attribute (e.g., Color, Size).
- Value(s): Dropdowns where you can select terms for the attribute. You can add new terms by clicking the “Add new” button.
- Visible on the Product Page Checkbox: Ensures the attribute is displayed on the product page.
Advanced:
The “Advanced” tab in WooCommerce provides features to add purchase notes and menu orders, & enable reviews.
- Purchase orders:
Purchase note provides you the option to Enter an optional note to send the customer after purchase.
- Menu order:
Through menu order, you can specify the order of your product by selecting the order number.
