Add WooCommerce product category to your store
Add WooCommerce product category to your store
Navigate to the product section, which is located under the product tab. Here, you will find a submenu option named categories.
Inside the Add New Category section, you will find these options used to add details about your product category.
- Name
- Slug
- Parent category
- Description
- Display type
- thumbnail
- Name:
Inside the name input section, you are required to input the name of your category.
- Slug:
Slugs are used in URLs to identify a particular category or product. They are usually all lowercase and contain only letters, numbers, and hyphens. In this section slug works the same as guiding the url or naming it to the right place
- Parent category:
Assign a parent term to create a hierarchy. The term Jazz, for example, would be the parent of Bebop and Big Band.
- Description:
The description is not prominent by default; however, some themes may show it.
- Display type:
In WooCommerce, the display type setting inside the product category section determines how products are shown on the category page. This setting offers three main options:
- Default: This option inherits the display settings from the parent category or the global shop settings. If there are no parent categories or global settings specified, it typically defaults to showing both products and subcategories.
- Products: This option displays only the products that belong to the selected category. It does not show any subcategories, even if they exist within this category.
- Subcategories: This option shows only the subcategories of the selected category. It does not display any products, focusing instead on directing users to subcategories.
- Both: This option displays both products and subcategories within the selected category. Users can see all the products as well as the subcategories on the same page.
- Thumbnail:
In WooCommerce, the thumbnail section in product category settings lets you upload and manage the category’s thumbnail image. This image is displayed on category pages to distinguish and represent each category visually, enhancing user experience and navigation.
